With the perspective that all people are entitled to
be treated with dignity and respect, Residential Services,
together with families and friends provides support and
guidance to children and adults in all aspects of daily
living. Emphasis is placed on those conditions of life that
promote and safeguard human rights.
Those conditions include:
The opportunity to develop and enjoy individual interests
and skills and to participate as an active member of a
household.
A caring environment that promotes the well-being of
mind, body and soul
Participation in and contribution to activities in
the community
Individualized support services that focus on self-determination
and personal choice, responsibility, contentment and inclusion.
K-WHS Residential Services currently operates three Children’s
homes and twenty Adult homes assimilated throughout the
cities of Kitchener and Waterloo. Homes are designed to
meet the individual support needs of the residents providing
up to 24 hour – seven days per week support and supervision.
Supported Independent Living is another residential support
option where a number of people live semi-independently
and either share rent or rent their own homes. Services
are offered to enhance the independent living abilities
of the people receiving support. Assistance is typically
requested in the areas of banking, budgeting, grocery shopping
and cooking however, support varies and may be provided
in any aspect of daily living.
Respite Services are provided in one of our children’s
homes and in one of our larger adult homes whereby your
family member may come to visit awhile and spend some time
away from their family home. Visits are fairly short in
duration, usually a week or so at a time. Routines that
are important to the visitor such as school or work and
any activities would continue throughout the visit.

NEWS FLASH: NASCAR Fans
John, Paul and Kevin are huge NASCAR fans. They each have their favourite drivers, (John’s is Kyle Busch, Paul’s is Dale Earnhardt Junior and Kevin’s is Tony Stewart), they proudly wear NASCAR shirts, and every weekend they sit down in front of the TV and cheer for their drivers. About 5 years ago John and Paul decided they would love to attend a NASCAR race. With help from Rich Preece, they found a way to make it happen. They saved enough money to take a bus tour to the race in Brooklyn, Michigan. John and Paul, accompanied by Rich, had a great time and decided to do it again. They invited Kevin to join them.
This past August they attended their 4th race, and they had the best time ever. The trip was organized by Kelly Fields of Uniglobe Donaldson Travel. The motor coach left Kitchener on Saturday morning at 6 am, and arrived at Michigan International Speedway at noon. The guys enjoyed watching the Nation wide race and shopping for NASCAR merchandise at the track. After the race they went back to the hotel and had an excellent dinner, swam in the pool, and rested up for the big event. On Sunday they arrived at the track at 9:30 am. Before the race John, Paul and Kevin walked around and took in all of the sights and sounds of NASCAR, including photograph opportunities, food and drink giveaways, and a live Speed Channel broadcast. At 1 pm the highlight of the weekend, the Sprint Cup Series CARFAX 400, began. The 3 hour race was hotly contested and enjoyed by everyone. Back at the hotel the guys enjoyed more time in the pool, followed by dinner at the Olive Garden. It was a long but incredibly fun filled day. Monday morning the motor coach returned to Kitchener.
John said his favourite part of the weekend was watching the Sprint Cup Race and cheering on all of the drivers. Paul also said he really enjoyed the race on Sunday and agreed it was the best part of the trip. Kevin said the best part of the trip was buying T-shirts, mini cars, and lanyards of his new favourite driver Danica Patrick. All three also said they would like to thank Kelly Fields and Uniglobe Travel for helping make this their best NASCAR experience yet. John, Kevin and Paul are looking forward to attending a NASCAR race again next year - they hope this tradition will continue for a long time!
