With the perspective that all people are entitled to
be treated with dignity and respect, Residential Services,
together with families and friends provides support and
guidance to children and adults in all aspects of daily
living. Emphasis is placed on those conditions of life that
promote and safeguard human rights.
Those conditions include:
The opportunity to develop and enjoy individual interests
and skills and to participate as an active member of a
household.
A caring environment that promotes the well-being of
mind, body and soul
Participation in and contribution to activities in
the community
Individualized support services that focus on self-determination
and personal choice, responsibility, contentment and inclusion.
K-WHS Residential Services currently operates three Children’s
homes and twenty Adult homes assimilated throughout the
cities of Kitchener and Waterloo. Homes are designed to
meet the individual support needs of the residents providing
up to 24 hour – seven days per week support and supervision.
Supported Independent Living is another residential support
option where a number of people live semi-independently
and either share rent or rent their own homes. Services
are offered to enhance the independent living abilities
of the people receiving support. Assistance is typically
requested in the areas of banking, budgeting, grocery shopping
and cooking however, support varies and may be provided
in any aspect of daily living.
Respite Services are provided in one of our children’s
homes and in one of our larger adult homes whereby your
family member may come to visit awhile and spend some time
away from their family home. Visits are fairly short in
duration, usually a week or so at a time. Routines that
are important to the visitor such as school or work and
any activities would continue throughout the visit.
David Fisher Residence and University of Waterloo Working Together
On a chilly yet sunny morning people from David Fisher Residence supported the University of Waterloo Nordic Ski team for their 2011 University of Waterloo Rollerski Duathlon. Athletes arrived bright and early parking at the David Fisher Residence. Athletes competed in a 5.5 km run and 8 km roller ski on Kressler and Weimar Roads.
Those of us from David Fisher handed out water, cheered on the athletes and were part of the awards ceremonies. Working together in partnership enriched the event for everyone.
Thanks to Colin Rhodes from the University of Waterloo for orchestrating this day.
