In 2003 when Byron Weckman became involved with the Community Placement Program, he had a dream to work for a TV station. Seven years later, a small part of that dream came true. On April 7, 2010, Byron was asked to speak at a Service Canada media event…an event that was later shown on CTV news @ 6 o’clock .
Following a speech by Kitchener’s Member of Parliament, Stephen Woodworth, Byron stood proudly at the podium as he spoke about his newly attained employment at the No Frills grocery store.
“I collect the carts and push them back into the store. I can take 6 at a time. It was hard work to get a job, but I did it!”
Afterwards, Byron mingled with other members of the event and even received a tip from the CTV cameraman regarding potential volunteer positions within a local television company. This cameraman also revealed that one of his first jobs was collecting carts at a grocery store.
Perhaps Byron is traveling down a similar path? Until then, he wears his No Frills uniform happily and does his best each and every shift he works. |
