Out and About Waterloo Region

Out and About Waterloo Region (OAAWR) helps adults with developmental disabilities build meaningful connections in their local community.

Everyone has different interests, goals, and dreams. Whether you want to meet new people, volunteer, try a new hobby, learn a new skill, or reconnect with something that is important to you, we’re here to help.

You’ll work one-on-one with a Local Community Connector who gets to know you and helps you discover opportunities that match your interests and goals.

What does a Local Community Connector do?

Your Local Community Connector works alongside you to help you:

  • Explore your interests and strengths.
  • Discover activities and groups in your community.
  • Build friendships and natural connections.
  • Find volunteer opportunities.
  • Learn new skills.
  • Connect with recreation and leisure activities.
  • Participate in community events.
  • Reconnect with people, places, or activities that are meaningful to you.

Our goal isn’t just to help you attend activities. It’s to help you build lasting relationships and feel like you belong in your community.

Who can access this service?

Out and About Waterloo Region supports adults with developmental disabilities who live in Waterloo Region and currently live:

  • independently, or
  • with parents, family members, or caregivers.

Where does the service take place?

Wherever your goals take you. We meet people in their own neighbourhoods and communities. Activities happen throughout Waterloo Region and are based on your interests, goals, and existing connections.

How do I get started?

There are two ways to access Out and About Waterloo Region:

Developmental Services Ontario (DSO). Most people are referred through Developmental Services Ontario.

Fee for Service. You can also purchase services directly through the KW Habilitation Marketplace. Fee for Service options are eligible for Passport funding.
