KW Habilitation’s vision is ‘a community where everyone belongs and participates’. We live this vision every day and that includes the way we work as a team! We do a lot to engage and support our team in their personal and professional well-being.

A few things to note:

  • We believe strongly in continuous learning and offer paid training, regular professional development opportunities and opportunities for advancement within our organization.
  • We believe in open communication and provide opportunities for our team members to provide feedback and ask questions directly to our Leadership team.
  • We’re committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion. Team members sit on our Equity Council which uses an intersectional lens to promote and support equity, diversity, and inclusion at KW Habilitation in a consultative and collaborative way.
  • We are employer partners of the Canadian Centre for Diversity and Inclusion which gives team members access to some amazing training and learning opportunities.
We provide all team members with access to an EAP (Employee Assistance Program) which gives people access to a range of health and wellness resources.
  • Providing mental health supports for our team members is extremely important. KW Hab invests in several different things that focus on the mental health of its team.
  • We have a committee dedicated to staff appreciation and staff development. They put on some pretty amazing events.
  • We share our gratitude with each other. We know gratitude goes a long way in building a positive culture and we believe in the science that says that gratitude inspires people to be nicer, more helpful, and happier.

There are different types of jobs at KW Habilitation, with varying schedules depending on the position. For example, a Resource Consultant working in our Early Learning department can expect to work Monday – Friday for approximately 8 hours/day. Direct Support Professionals (DSP’s) who provide “in-home” support can expect to work different schedules that reflect our 24/7 services. These schedules are generally 8 hour shifts that can include a variety of day, evening, and weekend shifts depending on the position/location. KW Habilitation also hires full-time and part-time employees to work overnight shifts.

Some of our current employees said:

  • “In general, the most challenging part of the job is learning the paperwork and documentation. There’s a lot to keep track of as a Direct Support Professional, and keeping it organized can be tough.”
  • “Working overnight shifts is challenging. It can feel a bit isolated, so you have to make sure to communicate with your team members who work in the daytime hours”
  • “The most challenging part of my role as a Direct Support Professional with KW Habilitation would be trying to make the dreams of the people I support come true.”

Part-time staff are paid vacation time on each hour worked, each pay
